January 2018 is a elaborate lunar month that starts with a Super Full Moon on the 1st-2nd and ends with a Blue Moon Lunar Eclipse on the 31st. Isn’t that something? The first Full Moon is in the Water zodiac sign Cancer and ties in beautifully with beginning of the calendar New Year. This is the perfect time to release the energy of the previous twelve months to create sacred space for the new. When the Moon is in this Water sign, strong emotions and feelings tend to push people to extremes within their behaviour.
This month will see us sorting through our personal soul connections helping us to understand the benefits as well as the disadvantages of dealing with the preserving and maintaining family life.
Regardless of what your Sun or Moon signs are, for the next couple of days, we’re all under the influence of this Cancer Moon. We'll all feel a little bit more emotional, and more vulnerable than we do during any other time this month. You'll have the urge to put up stronger barriers between you and other people in your life to protect yourself. Over-reacting makes some of us look exaggerated or blocking and hiding any reactions make some of us seem emotionless. This is one of Cancer’s party tricks. We tend to indulge in the illusion that living behind these barriers will keep our heart and soul safe.
However, maternal and parental instincts elevate these senses of belonging, bringing out the caring and protective side of our natures, leaving us more focused on family and home. During the full Moon in Cancer, you will feel more protective not only over yourself, but also over those that you love. Enjoy this home comfort with your children and relatives. It is a great time for uniting all the family together. You may always share the hospitality of people close to you, by visiting them at their homes too. If you get the chance to come out from behind your barrier, it is the best time for a visit somewhere around water.
The star sign of Cancer is actually represented by the Divine feminine energy and is ruled by the moon, in nature so this Cancer full moon is a super-charged celestial event that will shine the spotlight on your intuitive abilities. The full moon could also assist in healing some of the ego based troubles that have divided you and other people over the past few months. Since Cancer is the maternal nurturer of the zodiac, we are reminded that the wisdom in our hearts can be far more potent than any mind games.
Full Moon Ritual:
I prefer to use this Cancer Moon energy as a time for meditation, inner reflection, appreciation, as well as recharging my personal energy field and balancing the chakras.
At full moon the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the Earth so the moon is in direct opposition to the sun and this is symbolic of the conscious self (represented by the sun) fully illuminating the unconscious (represented by the moon). What this means is that whatever is hidden comes to light, and things always have a way of coming into your awareness and what is repressed in the subconscious more easily bubbles to the surface. This makes it a magical time for using the moon to attract, and is the perfect energy to ask for the answers we seek and to finally receive the solutions. A basic full moon ritual to make as short (or long) as you like and can be tailored to suit yourself.
1.) Select one or two crystals that would like to join you in your ritual. Light a special candle, and take three deep breaths, ground yourself and really feel yourself completely present in your sacred space.
2.) Take your favourite perfume or oil, this could be an essential oil, perfume or incense and waft or spritz it around, gently inhaling and relishing this aromatic scent to stimulate your senses.
3.) Choose a position that is comfortable for you, holding a crystal in each of your hands or one between the palms of both hands or holding it up to your heart centre with your non-dominant hand.
4.) Open with a request to your Spirit Guides and your Higher Self to bless and consecrate your space and to join you in this meeting place between our worlds in perfect love and perfect trust.
5.) Start with “thank you” and recall all the people and moments that made an impact on you in the last year. Extract all the goodness and wisdom from these recollections and let them fill you up on the inside.
6.) Then you might want to take a moment and see if someone would to step forward and communicate with you. You will sense their presence and experience a deep serenity in it.
7.) If you have a favourite deck of oracle or Tarot cards or a set of Runes, shuffle them and draw 2 cards or Runes.
The first to represent your enquiry, “What have I gained since new moon?”
And the second to represent spirit’s guidance, “What requires release with this full moon?”
8.) Note down any feelings and insights or journal as you see fit.
9.) With the sun and moon on opposite sides of the Earth, they create an arc of energy between them over our planet. Tap into the imagery of this shimmering that lies overhead and let it intermingle and filter into your aura.
10.) Absorb the energy and feel your cells illuminate, your spirit elevate and your mind rejuvenate.
11.) Personal Decree:
I now dissolve my former selves,
Beliefs, labels and identities
That no longer serve my highest good
As I step into greater relationship
With my inner being,
Nature’s secrets and other dimensions,
I dismiss all self-judgment, shame and guilt.
My soul talents thrive and my light brightens.
I am at peace on all levels and this exudes in
My personal space and extends to wherever I may go.
12.) Conclude your full moon rite by asking your Spirit Helpers and Deeper Self for guidance, inspiration and assistance in a specific matter in your life.
Now, remember if you don’t have anything pressing to address, you can ask for guidance, inspiration and assistance in your ability to serve a greater purpose through uplifting others, spreading love and simply shining your Divine light in a way that is beneficial to all:
“I am ready, show me the way”.
13.) Have something to eat and drink to reintegrate with the physical.
When you consistently engage in full moon rites such as the one suggested here, their magic accumulates. I am continually amazed and grateful for how things unfold for me each month and I deeply wish for you to experience this too!
Remember that if you can’t do this ritual on the day of the full moon, don’t worry, you can do it the day before or the day after as that is when the energy window is open.
Bright Blessings, Dear Ones
